The Marrakech International Film Festival announces its 23rd edition from 20 to 28 November 2026. You can therefore use these official dates to plan your trip. Films, screening times and admission conditions, however, still need checking in the information specific to this edition. Here is how to book the essentials and keep enough flexibility to enjoy the festival. Dates on the organiser's website
Confirmed dates, a programme still to watch
The 2026 regulations provide for announcement of the official selection in early November 2026. On 1 October, it would therefore be premature to build a stay around a film or a personality's assumed appearance. The competition particularly focuses on first and second feature films, making it an opportunity to discover directors rather than encounter only already familiar names. Official regulations for the 2026 edition
Watch for a mixture of years on the pages you consult. The website banner does announce 2026, but the “Programme” page still contains references to the 22nd edition and screenings starting on Friday 28 November, the 2025 calendar. These times are not the 2026 programme. Before noting a screening, check the year, day, venue and admission arrangements together. Official programme page
Choosing the right trip length
For a first experience, three or four nights may allow several screenings alongside discovering Marrakech. This is an organisational suggestion: the number of films you can attend will depend on the programme and available places. If a film becomes your priority, wait for its time before fixing your days.
Staying for the entire festival offers more room to manoeuvre, but requires planning rest. Avoid filling every morning with an excursion and every evening with screenings. Possible meetings and discussions, meals and journeys take time too.
If you want to be available from the first day, arriving the day before is more comfortable than landing immediately before a screening. The same reasoning applies to returning home: attending a closing evening and taking an early flight the next day can make the final night very short. Compare the cost of another night with how much that screening actually matters to you.
Booking accommodation without betting on venues
Until the detailed programme is established, favour accommodation whose modification or cancellation terms suit you. “Free cancellation” deserves a careful reading: deadline, local time, room type and any prepayment.
To compare two properties, open a map and identify their actual access. A riad can be pleasant for exploring the medina while still requiring a walk with baggage. Ask your accommodation for the recommended drop-off point, directions from there and late-arrival arrangements. A postal address alone is not always enough to prepare this final part of the journey.
Venues from earlier editions provide reference points, but do not guarantee the 2026 locations. Once published, put your accommodation and chosen screenings on the same map. You will better see whether proximity to one venue compensates for a longer journey to others.
Preparing your arrival from Marrakech-Menara
Keep your accommodation address, phone number and booking reference available offline. If you have booked a driver, provide the flight number and ask for confirmation of the meeting point, included waiting time and what to do if delayed. For a riad, ask whether the transfer ends at a vehicle-accessible gate or includes accompaniment to the entrance.
Compare possibilities with our Marrakech airport transport guide. The right choice depends particularly on traveller numbers, baggage volume and arrival time. Do not plan your first evening using one fixed journey duration: airport exit and traffic remain variable.
Instead, leave arrival time for settling in, a meal and getting your bearings locally. If everything happens quickly, adding a walk is easier than recovering a missed screening.
E-passes and screening access: check the edition before registering
The festival has an official accreditation and e-pass portal. When we checked, one of its pages still described arrangements for the 22nd edition, held in 2025. Free admission and the mechanisms described there must not automatically be promised for 2026. Official accreditation portal
When the 2026 information opens, look for answers to four questions:
- Which pass fits your circumstances as a spectator?
- Is general registration enough, or must each screening be booked?
- Do some screenings require a separate invitation?
- Which arrival deadlines and capacity limits apply?
Keep the validation email, not just proof that you sent a request. Check the instructions applicable to companions: do not assume one registration automatically covers two people. For specific accessibility requirements, ask the organisers directly about the relevant venue's conditions before choosing the screening.
Building a programme with breathing room
Once times are available, choose one priority screening per day first. Add a second only if travel and film durations allow it. Also prepare an alternative: a full screening or last-minute change should not disrupt the whole stay.
Check the film's language and announced subtitles. For family travel, also check the recommended age and admission conditions for minors. A young-audience section does not make every festival screening suitable for children.
Keep flexible slots for sightseeing. A guided medina visit can fit into a free morning; a distant excursion will occupy more of the day and complicate returning before a screening. Do not buy several non-refundable activities while your cinema priorities remain unsettled.
Planning the return to the airport
The day before departure, review the flight, check-in, baggage and documents required by your airline. Boarding-pass rules differ between airlines: consult your booking instructions rather than old general advice about Morocco.
Set the transfer meeting with a suitable margin and check the pickup point again. If leaving a riad, include any walk to the vehicle. Our Marrakech departures page can serve as a reference; airline messages and airport screens remain essential for your flight.
The checklist to keep before leaving
- Your stay dates match the edition running from 20 to 28 November 2026
- Flight and accommodation modification terms are understood
- Chosen screenings belong to the 2026 programme
- Necessary registrations and reservations are validated
- Useful addresses, contacts and documents are available offline
- The return transfer allows time for every formality
You can prepare travel and accommodation now. Simply keep screening choices open until November's official announcements: that will turn confirmed dates into a stay suited to your own film interests.
Choose a visit that fits your plans
Leave a buffer for travel and breaks. To complement this itinerary, browse experiences offered in Marrakech and check the duration, meeting point, availability and conditions with each organiser.

Save your accommodation address and meeting point offline. If you are considering an eSIM, check your exact phone model, included services and the plan's activation rule before buying.

Before your room is ready or after check-out, check whether your accommodation can keep your suitcases. If you are looking for a city location, choose one along your route and confirm the address, collection hours and conditions. This is not an announcement of storage in the terminal.
