For a smooth arrival in Marrakech, focus on preparing the final part of the journey. A vehicle may bring you close to your accommodation without reaching its door. The riad's name and postal address are therefore not always enough: the drop-off point and subsequent route deserve as much attention as the airport transfer.

Here is a method for choosing between a taxi, bus and booked transfer, finding your driver and reaching the right place. Prices and schedules change: confirm them for your date, group and exact address.

Before departure, ask your riad for three reference points

Contact the accommodation for its precise location, the point where a vehicle can drop you off and walking directions from there. Ask for an easily recognisable landmark, ideally with a photograph. A medina gate or square may be more useful to a driver than an address in a narrow alley.

Also clarify whether someone can meet you at the drop-off point. Is this accompaniment included in your booking or charged separately? Is it available at your arrival time? If you have large suitcases, a pushchair or walking difficulties, ask about the route and possible obstacles rather than simply an estimated distance.

Save this information offline, together with the riad's phone number and transport confirmation. A map screenshot usefully complements the GPS point: it remains accessible if your connection does not work immediately.

On landing, allow time before the meeting

After disembarking, follow signs for arrival checks, baggage collection and the exit. Keep your documents accessible. Avoid setting a meeting a few minutes after the scheduled landing time: that is not the time you will be beside the vehicle.

If you have booked a transfer, give your flight number and check the arrangements for delays. Flight tracking does not cover every situation: a missing suitcase or prolonged wait in the terminal can also delay your exit. If there is a baggage problem, notify the transport provider and riad as soon as possible.

ONDA states that the airport has a Wi-Fi network. Nevertheless, keep essential details offline and a contact number usable without a particular app.

Choosing transport for your actual arrival

A taxi taken at the airport

ONDA mentions a taxi rank on the esplanade and fares displayed in the taxi parking area. The authority has also announced a desk for pre-ordering and prepaying journeys. On arrival, follow the signs and ask information staff to confirm which system is actually operating.

Present your complete destination and the drop-off point supplied by your riad. Before committing, check the total amount, payment currency, traveller numbers and baggage space. If a receipt is issued, keep it. An amount quoted for an area does not, by itself, explain how you will reach the riad's door.

A transfer booked in advance

This option deserves comparison if you want to arrange your welcome before flying, are travelling in a group or need particular coordination on arrival. Request a quote for the exact address, with passenger numbers, baggage and necessary equipment. For a child seat, confirm its type and availability rather than relying on a general “family-friendly” statement.

The quote should specify the meeting location, included waiting time, any supplements and cancellation terms. Above all, check the drop-off: a service described as “door to door” needs clarification when the final street is inaccessible to vehicles. Does the driver accompany you on foot, does the riad take over, or do you continue independently?

The bus to the city

ONDA also mentions a shuttle between the airport and city. Before choosing it, check the useful stop, the service scheduled on your arrival day and the remaining route to the riad. Do not choose solely from an old price or a route number found in a comment.

The bus can suit travellers with light baggage who accept a final walk or a connection. Compare the full cost for your group, including any additional transport. A late arrival, several suitcases or difficult accommodation access may change its appeal. Our Marrakech airport transport page brings together the options to examine.

Finding the right person at the exit

For a booked transfer, reread the confirmation before leaving the terminal. Look for the stated meeting point and verify the person's identity against the details received. If no one is waiting at the agreed place, contact the provider through the booking channel before paying for a second ride.

For a taxi or bus departure, use the official signs on site. You can ask the information desk for help if locations have changed. Avoid moving between several improvised meetings: choose an identifiable place and communicate it clearly to your contact.

From drop-off to the riad's door

Before leaving the vehicle, collect every bag and check that the location matches the accommodation's instructions. If a riad staff member is coming, contact the property directly to confirm the meeting. Someone spontaneously offering help is not necessarily the person you are expecting.

If you want luggage carrying, agree on the service and price before handing over your bags. To continue alone, consult the prepared walking route and landmarks sent by the riad. A digital map can help, but does not always explain which door to use or which passage to take.

The best time to settle these details remains before travelling. After a flight and an airport wait, simple instructions avoid having to compare options amid your baggage.

Keeping the return journey in mind

Once settled, photograph your drop-off point and ask whether departure uses the same place. Clarify available help with suitcases and when you need to leave the riad, taking your airline's instructions and traffic conditions into account.

You can consult our Marrakech departures page to prepare your return, then confirm status with the airline. For arrival and departure alike, good organisation rests on a few concrete details: an exact destination, an understood price, a reachable contact and an anticipated final leg.

Prepare the journey with your group and luggage

A successful journey begins with a clear meeting point and a suitable vehicle. Compare private transfer conditions; if you want to drive, separately check the rental agreement, deposit and rules specific to your itinerary.
